Synopsis

Un jeune homme est rejeté par la femme qu’il aime et banni de la société. Il est dès lors condamné à errer à travers les montagnes, la neige et la glace : un voyage qui aura pour issue la mort… ou une nouvelle vie.

Une histoire pleine d’amour et de lyrisme, un film musical et sans dialogue.
Un long métrage inspiré de l’œuvre musicale de Franz Schubert, Winterreise.

Un poète est chassé de la ville où il habite et est roué de coups, sa vie ne tient plus qu’à un fil. Lorsqu’il reprend connaissance, il renonce à la société et traverse forêts et champs vers des montagnes enneigées où l’attend un destin incertain…

Bavaria, 1812. A poet is chased from a town and beaten to within an inch of his life. When he revives, he escapes through forests and fields towards the snow capped mountains and an uncertain fate. The journey leads him to reflect on Therese, the young woman he still loves. He is plagued by memories: their meeting in spring, how he made the town his home, how he comforted Therese after her father’s death in Napoleon’s war and how she seduced him in secret. The poet must survive his freezing journey. Led by his only companion, a crow, he seeks comfort in the in the magical beauty of the wintry landscape. He comes to understand his place in the world, as an outsider and an artist.
