Gurkin a été créée en 2014 par Sabrina Roubache, qui avait précédemment œuvré aux côtés d’Akhenaton (Comme un aimant), puis de Thierry Aflalou au sein de Comic Strip Productions et aux côtés de Paul Saadoun et Elisabeth Hulten de Seconde Vague Productions.
Elle a notamment assuré la production exécutive de la série Netflix.
En mars 2019, Gurkin a racheté la société Seconde Vague Productions.
